Acquiring new Birthrights

My husband and I are running a Scion game, and I was wondering how other Storytellers here handle the characters acquiring new Birthrights after character creation (a few of our players want to acquire new Purviews). Do you work getting the new Birthright into a story, or does the player have to wait until the character reaches the next power tier?

We're planning on working the acquisition of Birthrights into stories, but I was wondering how other people might handle it. There doesn't seem to be a set cost for Birthrights, so I'd like to hear how other people have handled that, too. Do you just have the players build them as per the cost at character creation?
  • As a rule, most Relics are story rewards, players do not purchase them. A player can let me know they hope to cultivate X Purview and would appreciate a Relic showing up eventually...it usually happens, and then if they find relics its not "great...another death Relic...we will put it in the storeroom."

That said, as a rule players tend to be sure they have their bases covered for whatever leg of the game it is when they template; At Hero, they generally try to be sure they have everything they want before Demigod, then at Demigod before God, etc. Of course, sometimes they decide they want something later, or something is added to the game (like Illusion or Frost, and I eventually made Industry an APP.)

Alternately, if you are one of those GMs who is a firm believer in paying for solid advantages, in the Trinity trilogy Backgrounds are CRx3.
